The Textile Cuisine

I'm not done with roosters and folk art yet, just decided to take a short break. Same time last year I was stitching Nasturtiums (see them HERE ). It has to be something in the air (summer?) because now I feel I have to make another ones. But it is not what you see - these are very old (15 years?), one of the very first art quilts I  made. Jeszcze nie skończyłam z kogutami i folkowymi makatkami, ale postanowiłam zrobić małą przerwę. W ubiegłym roku o tej porze szyłam nasturcje (są TUTAJ ). I chyba coś jest na rzeczy (lato?) bo właśnie poczułam, że muszę znowu jakieś uszyć. Ale to nie to co widzicie - te są bardzo stare (15 lat?), to jedna z pierwszych moich prac. Unfortunately I don't have a good picture of it - so forgive me the quality, this is just to give you an idea: Niestety nie mam dobrego zdjęcia - wybaczcie, ale chcę dać Wam pojęcie jak to wygląda w całości:  Detailed pictures are better but then again - you can see the poor quality of my early quilting :) Z

Hope I don't bore you but my modern folk art wall hangings are quite addictive - can't stop playing with them.  This time I went for more old school colors - browns with reds. Mam nadzieję, że Was nie zanudzam, ale te folkowe makatki okazały się całkiem wciągające - nie mogę przestać z nimi eksperymentować. Tym razem coś spokojniejszego i bardziej retro w charakterze - brązy z czerwienią. And the poultry couple received some more intricate decoration :) A drobiowa parka dostała całkiem misterną oprawę :)  I like to make these couples but some of my customers want the whole family portrait - that's no problem: Lubię szyć takie parki, ale niektórzy chcą portret całej rodzinki - nie ma problemu: Whatever I do, I do it with love - highly decorated love, I mean :) Cokolwiek robię, robię z miłością - i to mocno ozdobioną :)  

 When you jump between castles and barns you may land in the hen house again :) But a bit of folk art never really hurts. The idea for this wall hanging was percolating for some time already. And the source was in this beautiful green felt hand dyed by Anneczka , one of my dear students. Anneczka brought the piece of her felt and just shared it with me. At the moment I had no idea what will I do but when I saw the red fabric in Ania's stash I knew immediately that it was a perfect match for my felt! Jak ktoś tak sobie skacze ze stodoły do zamku to w końcu znowu wyląduje w kurniku :) Ale odrobina sztuki ludowej jeszcze nikomu nie zaszkodziła. Pomysł na tę makatkę dojrzewał już od jakiegoś czasu. A zarzewiem był ten piękny zielony filc ufarbowany własnoręcznie przez Anneczkę , jedną z moich drogich słuchaczek kursowych. Anneczka przyniosła kawałek filcu i po prostu połowę mi dała. W pierwszej chwili nie miałam pojęcia co z nim zrobię, ale kiedy tylko zauważyłam w Ani zbiorac

So it is Summer - with temperatures over 30 C we know it really is. Sitting in front of computer seems a bit too much. But sitting in the nice shadow and stitching is perfect. Feels like holidays :)  Let's enjoy the sun and all the summer pleasures! Nadeszło lato - fala upałów przekonuje, że to naprawdę ono. Siedzenie w tych warunkach przed komputerem to raczej przesada. Ale już siedzenie w miłym cieniu i szycie jest super. Zupełnie jak na wakacjach :) No to cieszmy się słońcem i wszystkimi letnimi przyjemnościami!

Does it look familiar to you? If not, don't worry - it took me many hours of constant working on this background until I realized that I did something like this earlier before. Czy coś Wam to przypomina? Jeśli nie, to nic nie szkodzi - mnie potrzeba było wielu godzin pracy nad tym tłem, zanim uświadomiłam sobie, że kiedyś już coś podobnego szyłam. Yes, I mean my "Old Barn" (see it HERE ). I found it pretty funny that I use the same filling for the background no matter if it is a barn or a castle. Tak, mam na myśli "Starą stodołę" (zobaczcie TUTAJ ). Wydało mi się to bardzo zabawne, że w podobny sposób wypełniam tło, niezależnie od tego czy to stodoła czy zamek. So I came back to my kitchen gardens and made some more of them. No to wróciłam do swoich ogródków kuchennych i zrobiłam kilka nowych. They are not mounted on canvas (just ready to frame) Tym razem nie montowałam ich na niczym (można je oprawić jak się chce)  and slightly different but who guess what is the main difference? i są troszkę inne, ale kto widzi najważniejszą różnicę? It may not be so obvious so let me tell you. The next kitchen garden I made after the first one was with lilacs (well, sort of) To może nie być takie oczywiste, więc pozwólcie, że Wam sama powiem. Kolejny ogródek, który zrobiłam po tym pierwszym , miał być z bzami (umówmy się, że to bzy) And you know what? I didn't like it. Why? Because of the tulle: I wiecie co? Nie polubiłam go. Dlaczego? It turned out that I needed some break from intricacy after completing my Victorian lady. So I went into something totally different - landscape with big spots of color and just a few beads :) Okazało się, że muszę odetchnąć trochę po żmudnej dłubaninie mojej wiktoriańskiej damy. Więc poszłam w inną stronę - pejzaż z dużymi plamami koloru i zaledwie paroma koralikami :) What is the most surprising in this art quilt is the background - hand dyed by myself! It happens sometimes but in general it is a rare thing. This time I had a piece of a vintage linen of very high quality so I knew it will take the color very easy and (what's more important) the color will stay there. Tym co mnie najbardziej zaskoczyło było tło - sama ufarbowałam! Czasem mi się to zdarza, ale baaaardzo rzadko. Ale miałam taki świetny stary len wysokiej jakości i wiedziałam, że nie tylko dobrze przyjmie kolor, ale (co chyba ważniejsze nawet) i że ten kolor na nim zostanie.  I just wanted to feel like a
