The Textile Cuisine

It's been a long time, I know. The days are shorter now which means even less time for creativity other than cooking. But the promised progress of one of my new projects is just landing on your screen :) If you know me long enough, you may remember my fascination by Medieval couples. Sporo czasu minęło, wiem. Dni coraz krótsze co oznacza jeszcze mniej czasu na twórczość inną niż gotowanie. Ale obiecany postęp prac przy jednym z nowych projektów właśnie ląduje na Waszych monitorach :) Być może niektórzy z Was pamiętają moją fascynację średniowiecznymi parkami. This is my first attempt for making one myself. This piece is from 2004. Since then I made a few more: Ta była pierwsza, z 2004 roku. You wonder what am I so busy with and now you see an old hen , right? But there's a reason for this - the handsome guy :) Ciekawi Was czym jestem taka zajęta, a tu jakaś stara kura , tak? Ale jest powód - mam dla niej przystojniaczka :) I'm so happy with him that I had to share it with you. Taka jestem z niego zadowolona, że aż musiałam się Wam pochwalić. I'm afraid there will be another one, in blue: Obawiam się też, że będzie jeszcze jeden, niebieski: And no, it's not all what goes here in the textile cuisine. But the serious stuff demands a bit more space to show and tell about it. So now I'm just documenting the slow process with pictures to show it to you when time allows :) Nie, to nie jest wszystko co się "gotuje" w tej szmacianej kuchni. Ale poważniejsze projekty wymagają trochę więcej przestrzeni, żeby o nich opowiedzieć. Więc na razie tylko dbam o dokumentację zdjęciową, a pokażę, kiedy czas pozwoli :)

Do you remember this background fabric? Well, you may not know it, but I have a soft spot for stripes. Not for all stripes, just for some of them. Like for the ones I received from my dear friend (where would I be without my friends?...). So I fell in love with them immediately. Pamiętacie tę tkaninę stanowiącą tło dla fruwających filiżanek? No cóż, może tego nie wiecie, ale mam słabość do pasków. Nie, nie do pasków w ogóle, tylko do pewnych pasków. Na przykład takich, jakie dostałam od serdecznej przyjaciółki (cóż ja bym zrobiła bez moich przyjaciół?...). Zakochałam się w nich momentalnie. Frankly speaking I'm going to use this break to tell you some hot news. We have Patchwork Festival in Poland :) Yeap, it's the very first one. Szczerze mówiąc, zamierzam wykorzystać tę przerwę na podzielenie się z Wami sensacyjną wiadomością. Mamy pierwszy Festiwal Patchworku w Polsce! It's organized by Bernina , in Cracow and you can see there lots of interesting quilts. Of course it's a small exhibition compared to the big quilt shows but it's just the first step. I submitted two of my works - "The Global Village" and "The Market". But you can see many more really wonderful quilts. I visited the exhibition on Friday, met the organizers and fellow quilters and talked a lot. Didn't take any pictures, but you can see some HERE .  This blooming onion isn't the only reason I'm writing a new post (although I'm really proud of it). Last time I totally forgot to share my big news - I've been published :) Wbrew pozorom, ta kwitnąca cebula nie jest jedynym powodem do napisania nowego postu (chociaż jestem z niej bardzo dumna). Kompletnie zapomniałam ostatnio podzielić się z Wami dobrą nowiną - artykułem w branżowym czasopiśmie :) Yes, I'm in the summer issue of Art Quilting Studio . And it feels really good - great pictures of my works and fantastic company of other artists. Tak, jestem w letnim numerze Art Quilting Studio . To bardzo miłe - świetne zdjęcia moich prac i doskonałe towarzystwo innych artystów. And if you want to see all the homes sent for "Home Is Where the Quilt Is" they are online now . I know, last post was one moth ago. Oh well... But I have a good excuse - homeworks (or even houseworks). Do you remember this old post when I declared my will to participate in the "Home Is Where The Quilt Is" project? Here you see my entry :)  Wiem, ostatnia notka była miesiąc temu. No cóż... Ale mam dobre usprawiedliwienie - prace domowe (czy raczej domkowe). Pamiętacie ten stary post , w którym zapowiadałam chęć wzięcia udziału w projekcie "Home Is Where The Quilt Is" ? Oto mój domek :) I titled it "Real Homes Wear Quilts" and I know it arrived safe and sound. I also sent my entry for another contest (accepted!) but can't show it publicly yet. And working on this house resulted in some side effects :) Zatytułowałam go "Real Homes Wear Quilts" i wiem już, że bezpiecznie dotarł na miejsce. Are you ready? Here she is - finished! Jesteście gotowi? Oto ona - skończona! "Poet in the kitchen" in her full glory. She is 60 x 74cm big and a bit tricky for photographing. "Poetka w kuchni" w pełnej okazałości. Ma 60 x 74cm i oczywiście trudno jej zrobić zdjęcie.  The last weeks of working on her were really intensive. And of course no "in the process" pictures - I had to stay focused on just sewing. Ostatnie tygodnie pracy nad nią były bardzo intensywne. I oczywiście żadnych zdjęć "w trakcie" - musiałam być bardzo skoncentrowana na samym szyciu. I have to confess that I like her very much. In fact it is exactly the picture I saw while reading the poem by Dorota Kiersztejn Pakulska . So to remind the poem and the beginning of the whole story - look HERE .
